Conclusion

“Far beyond my speech impediment / Lies the heart that's truly me”

As the title of the book says - "Being positive is the key to everything", the conclusion says the same thing. In order to succeed in overcoming any psychological problem (which stuttering is), we must first start from ourselves and our attitude towards ourselves and stuttering.

How much does stuttering hold you back in your life and daily activities? Are you working on improving your speech? Nowadays, there are so many sites, groups, books on this topic, and if stuttering bothers you so much, you can always go to the Internet and find a bunch of information on how to suppress it or at least reduce it. As we mentioned, there are so many exercises, but most of all you need will, a positive approach and work, work and work. Repetition. Falls. Lots of falling.

Nothing can be conquered without stumbling countless times, including stuttering. My advice is, before you go to war with stuttering, work on yourself and the way you will approach that fight. As with many things in life, you should not approach something just because you have to, but you should approach it with a lot of will and desire.

Without a positive attitude towards yourself and life, stuttering is very difficult, almost impossible, to overcome. Maybe some of them succeed, but probably they did not have this problem for a very long time or to such an extent where stuttering "took over" their life.

Through all those years of reading emails and messages from other people who stuttered, it was exactly that, that positive energy that everyone was missing as the first and basic step in their struggle. Some succeeded and contacted us saying that now they see that this is the key to everything. Some are still looking for that positive energy, but they don't give up. Some have found it, but still stutter because they have realized that stuttering (or at least stuttering to that extent) does not make life difficult for them in any way.

In many books, this energy is also mentioned as the key to suppressing or overcoming stuttering. Mr. Lovett, author of one of the best (if not the best) book on stuttering and stuttering control techniques also concluded that positivity is the key to everything. In his techniques, he believes that, while speaking, attention should be focused only on the words that we say well, clearly, while we don't even pay attention to everything else. This is how we train our brain, with a positive approach, to hear only words/sentences spoken in a fluent manner, and ignore everything else.

So, turn to positive thinking and everything else will come by itself! Practice your speech, train your brain and be happy! Finally - a very beautiful song that I wrote inspired by the song "Words Won't Come" by Alan Pritchard:

Words just won't come easily
It seems they never do
It's not that they're not waiting
But there's a wall they can't break through
They travel from the heart to brain
With marvelous persistence
But when they reach my lips to leave
They're faced with great resistance
I imagine I'm announcing
The nightly evening news
Enlightening all who'll listen
With the words that I would choose
There'd be no break in symmetry
My diction so refined
The words would flow like music
Every syllable defined
My smile and speech are synchronized
Just the way they're meant to be
And the joy of being understood
Sweeps completely over me
Then I hear you say, "Good morning"
And I begin to say, "hello"
But I see your look of sympathy
As my response is far too slow
It's not because I'm nervous
But I'm nervous now from trying
To form the words, to speak my thoughts
As you wait for my replying
Stuttering is not an option
But it seems my cross to bear
It's something I can't leave behind
It's with me everywhere
But if you'll take the time to know me
There's so much more to see
Far beyond my speech impediment
Lies the heart that's truly me

You’ve read the whole book. Thank you.
